From Mithila to the world: our makhana export to Australia

We exported 18 metric tonnes of makhana from Bihar to Australia, taking a product rooted in Mithila’s agricultural heritage to an international market. This shipment marks an important step in our work to connect Bihar’s produce with buyers beyond India.

Rooted in Mithila

Our export brings Mithila’s distinctive makhana to Australia. Also known as fox nut, makhana is grown in the ponds and wetlands of northern Bihar; Mithila Makhana received Geographical Indication recognition in 2022. As we take this regional produce to wider markets, its heritage and the work of the communities who grow it remain central to our purpose.

Our shipment to Australia

Our 18-metric-tonne consignment was flagged off on 7 August 2026 at the BIADA industrial area before travelling to Australia by sea. Shri Vijay Kumar Sinha, Bihar’s Agriculture Minister, joined the flag-off. As the exporter, we are proud to bring Bihar’s makhana to Australia and build a stronger trade connection between the two markets.

Trade with farmers at its heart

We export with a clear purpose: to open wider markets for Bihar’s produce and pursue better value for its growers. This shipment is a step towards that goal, and we remain committed to building lasting relationships with producers and international buyers. If you are a buyer, producer or institutional partner interested in Bihar’s agricultural products, we welcome a conversation.

Mithila’s crop, carried by hand

Makhana is harvested from the ponds and wetlands of Mithila, a craft the region’s families have practised for generations. Every consignment that leaves Bihar carries that labour and tradition with it. Taking this crop to an international market means recognising the work of the communities behind it on a global stage.

What this trade means for Bihar

International shipments like ours do more than move produce across the ocean. They create visibility for Bihar’s agricultural strengths and open a channel that growers and enterprises across the state can use. We see this consignment as the beginning of a longer trade relationship between Bihar and Australia, one that we intend to keep building.

An open invitation

If you are a distributor, retailer or institutional partner in Australia or elsewhere, we would be glad to hear from you. We are building our export programme step by step, and we value partners who share our commitment to quality and to fair value for farmers.

Penang, MalaysiaInternational engagement

Building bridges between Bihar’s farmers and Malaysia

Our founder, Pravin Kumar, met Shri Jagdeep Singh, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Penang, in Malaysia. This engagement reflects our commitment to building relationships that can connect Bihar’s farmers and entrepreneurs with wider international opportunities.

Connecting communities through trade

For us, this meeting represents more than a cordial exchange. It is an opportunity to strengthen understanding between Bihar’s farming communities and the people of Malaysia. We see these relationships as a starting point for exploring how trade and cooperation can serve farmers and enterprises.

Community networks that open doors

We extend our sincere appreciation to the global Punjabi community for helping open doors for farmers and entrepreneurs in Bihar as well as Punjab. Bihar’s connection to the legacy of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, who was born in the state, gives these ties special significance. We value the community’s support in bringing people together across borders.

Better market access. Fairer value.

Our goal is clear: help Bihar’s farmers reach wider markets, pursue fair value for their produce and explore international opportunities. We are working to build the relationships needed to advance that goal, with farmer prosperity and Bihar’s development at the heart of our efforts.

Our priority is to connect Bihar’s farmers with wider markets and opportunities that support their prosperity.

Moving forward together

We will continue this outreach through dialogue and relationship-building. If you are a farmer, entrepreneur, community representative or institution interested in supporting these connections, we welcome a conversation about how we can work together.

Punjab & Uttar Pradesh, IndiaInter-state engagement

Strengthening Bihar’s ties with Punjab and Uttar Pradesh

Our founder, Pravin Kumar, recently met the Hon’ble Speaker of the Punjab Legislative Assembly. The conversation reinforced a principle that guides our work: cooperation between states can create opportunities for shared development.

Cooperation for shared development

We believe Bihar and its people can benefit from closer cooperation with other states. Our engagement in Punjab reaffirmed the importance of building relationships around shared priorities. Through these conversations, we aim to identify common ground for collaboration that benefits communities on both sides.

Shared heritage, common priorities

We see Punjab and Uttar Pradesh as natural partners for Bihar. The legacy of Guru Gobind Singh Ji connects Bihar and Punjab, while shared social challenges offer common ground for dialogue. Uttar Pradesh, particularly Purvanchal, shares close cultural and geographical ties with Bihar. These connections provide a strong foundation for exploring mutual development.

Taking the dialogue forward

As part of his India outreach, Pravin Kumar has outlined plans for further person-to-person conversations in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. Our focus is on listening, strengthening relationships and exploring new avenues of cooperation. We want these exchanges to help identify where communities and enterprises can work together.

We believe shared development begins with dialogue, trust and a willingness to work together.

Be part of the conversation

If your enterprise, institution or community organisation shares an interest in closer cooperation between Bihar, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh, we would be pleased to hear from you. We welcome perspectives and ideas that can help shape this continuing dialogue.
